Fjora Boesson

“Too many scholars think of research as purely a cerebral pursuit. If we do nothing with the knowledge we gain, then we have wasted our study. Books can store information better than we can--what we we do that books cannot is interpret. So if one is not going to draw conclusions, then one might as well just leave the information in the texts.” - Jasnah

From Humble Beginnings

In the years before the calamity Boesson had been a respectable name among the goldsmiths of Ul'dah. Fjora's father, Erik Boesson, had earned a name for himself and moved his family from the Silver Bazaar hamlet to a modest house within the great city of Ul'dah. Their new found prosperity was to be short lived, however, for within the year the red moon of Dalamud appeared in the Eorzea sky.

In the final days leading to the calamity the great city of Ul'dah began to see her streets plundered. Shops and homes were looted and destroyed. A group of malefactors had broken into the Boesson's home one night in search of precious gems and metals. Her mother, Ifrine, secreted Fjora out the back of the house and instructed her to head to Arrzaneth Ossuary to wait for her and her father. Fjora's protests died on her lips as shouts began to erupt from the front of the house and she did as her mother commanded and fled to the Ossuary. She would never see her mother and father alive again. She would return the following morning with one of the guilds thaumaturges to find they had both been killed in what was likely an altercation that had gone very awry. Their home was sacked of anything valuable and what was left lay scattered and broken.

Fjora had stayed at the Ossuary for a time, but an adolescent with no family or means in Ul'dah following the aftermath of the calamity and floods or refugees from Ala Mhigo held no real prospects for her future. She had secured work in the Ossuary for a short time, mainly cleaning and helping with the general upkeep. She secured enough coin to purchase passage on a cargo ship heading for Limsa Lominsa.

Fjora's luck took a tern for the better in the pirate city. She secured work at The Bismarck, serving tables, helping the chefs with their mise en place, and finding a few within the city that she could call friend. One friend in particular, Mozon, encouraged her to join the Arcanists Guild at Mealvaan's Gate and it was here where she finally found her place in Eorzea and her passion for scholarly pursuits.

A Scholar Returns

Five years have passed since the calamity. Fjora's devotion to her studies have her focused on uncovering the histories of ancient Nym and her time at The Bismarck has flourished within her a deep appreciation for the culinary arts. She strives to keep the memory of her family alive by practicing what goldsmithing techniques her father taught her; though her work pales in comparison to her father's and other well established artisans of Thanalan.

And in recent events, Fjora received a letter from Ishgard informing her of some distant relation to her mother that is looking to get into contact with her. Fjora's not sure if this bodes good or ill. For now she has has returned to her childhood home looking to earn a living with adventure work.
